Platelet rich plasma is a concentrate of platelet rich plasma protein derived from whole blood after it has been processed to remove the red blood cells. Platelets are cells that contain growth factors that assist in wound healing and regeneration of new tissue. PRP uses the body’s natural growth factors and natural repairing processes to stimulate collagen production and tissue regeneration to aid with skin tone, texture, elasticity and hydration.
This treatment has also been used in hair restoration in some individuals who experience thinning hair.
How it works:
A small sample of your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood (eg. red blood cells, white blood cells and plasma). The plasma component is then extracted and injected back into targeted treatment areas. This treatment is most effective in three or more sessions, four to six weeks apart depending on the desired goals. PRP can aid with sun damage, dark circles under the eyes, reduce acne scars and reduce the signs of aging.
